Second, the feeding tube serves as a lifeline for resuscitating weak or hypothermic calves. Calves suffering from hypothermia due to dystocia or cold weather often lack the strength to nurse independently. In such cases, rapidly administering warm electrolyte solutions or colostrum via the feeding tube is the most efficient method to replenish energy and fluids, preventing shock—a truly life-saving intervention.
Beyond emergencies, the feeding tube plays an indispensable role in managing sick calves, particularly those suffering from diarrhea and dehydration. When calves experience severe diarrhea, their bodies rapidly dehydrate and they refuse to eat.
